Morelia Species
Morelia species, in particular the Carpets, are amongst the
most sought after pythons. They range from the rare and stunning Diamonds,
other pure locality specific true forms, to the captive success storys of the
Jaguar Pythons and it's many beautiful morphs.
We are working with the following forms:
Diamond Pythons (Morelia s.spilota)
We were the first breeders in the UK to successfully
reproduce the Diamond Python.
There are three generally accepted localities but some cowboys have made up
their own names up for some from different locals ie: the Penrith Diamond.
And the further north that they go you get into the intergrade habit. You
could say put the three variants as Gosford, Southern Highlands and Sydney,
the latter being the dullest. The Gosford Diamond is known to be the most
vibrantly coloured and generally the further south that they go they get
darker in colour. More>
Brisbane Coastal Carpet Pythons (Morelia s.mcdowelli)
Rockhampton Coastal Carpet Pythons (Morelia s.mcdowelli)
The biggest of the Carpets, Coastal's kicked off the Jaguar
lines. These are good subjects in their own right, or as stock to put back
into the Jaguar gene pool. We have two locals; Brisbane's and
Rockhampton's.
Jungle Carpet Pythons (Morelia s.cheynei)
We were breeding these back in the early 90's from several
strong German lines and they are still very popular. Our current adults
are from several lines, but include some fine black and yellow German typical AT
stock.
Irian Jaya Carpet Pythons (Morelia s.harrisoni)
Formerly lumped with the Dawin's Carpet (M.S.variegata), the
scientific name has been changed to reflect its distinctive status. There
is also a school of thought that suggests it's common name should be the Papuan
Carpet Python in view of the fact Irian Jaya is now called West Papua.
(Old habits die hard; I still call GTP's Chondro's!) We
have a diverse genetic population including captive bred examples from Marc
Mense and wild stock.
